Further to our earlier work highlight on advising FINAS Malaysia, on the proposed amendments to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia Act 1981 (Act 244), we are pleased to share that the Rang Undang-Undang Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (Pindaan) 2025 has now been approved by both the Dewan Rakyat and the Dewan Negara.
Our Deputy Managing Partner, Kevin Richard Nathan together with Afif Che Had, Advisory & Compliance Partner, have been advising FINAS throughout the legislative reform process. The amendments are intended to ensure that Malaysia’s film and creative content industry remains relevant, maintains integrity and continues to develop in line with technological advancements and the evolving digital content landscape.
The amendments are structured around three core areas, namely industry development, enhancements to governance and administration as well as the strengthening of FINAS’ functions and enforcement powers. Collectively, these reforms are intended to support the development of a more professional, transparent and competitive industry ecosystem, while reinforcing FINAS’ role as both regulator and industry facilitator.
This milestone reflects the successful completion of a significant legislative reform exercise and highlights the Firm’s role in advising on complex policy and legislative matters within a broader public and regulatory context.
